Facebook Announces Action to Fight Fake News
Facebook will prioritize the sources of information according to the degree of reliability granted to them by users of the social network, announced the group this Friday, January 19, new illustration of its fight against the “fake news”.
“I asked our teams to make sure that we give priority to reliable, (really) informative and local information,“explained Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg in a text posted on his personal page.
But how to decide on the reliability of information sources, he also wondered, adding that he had decided to ask users for their opinion themselves.
“We will now ask (users) whether they know of any particular source publishing information and, if so, whether they trust that source. The idea is that some media are only considered reliable by their readers or viewers, while others have a higher degree of trust in society, even by those who don’t follow them directly“, Zuckerberg explains.
Criticized for months
Depending on the responses, media publications considered reliable will be more visible on the news feed.
“This new feature will not change the amount of information you see on Facebook. This will only change the balance of information in favour of sources that are considered reliable by the users’ community,” says Mark Zuckerberg.
This announcement comes one week after another Facebook measure, which announced on Thursday its intention to reduce the presence of brands and media on news feeds.
The group has been criticized for months, accused in particular of not fighting enough against the “fakes news” present on the network, which claims two billion monthly active users.
